FAQ - Security
What is a keyless entry?
A keyless entry is a product that allows you to unlock and lock your car
via a remote control. This is a terrific convenience because you will no
longer have to put the key in the door to open your car. Some keyless
entries have additional buttons that can open your trunk or other
convenience features. More advanced keyless entry systems add vehicle
security (starter disable, LED, etc) and safety features (domelight
surveillance, panic, etc.). The installation of a keyless entry is
relatively basic but difficult if you do not have the appropriate tools
and vehicle wiring information.
What is an alarm?
An alarm can be many things:
Vehicle security: Alarms come with a variety of choices to protect your
vehicle including starter disable, shock sensor, glass sensor, field
sensor, and door entry warning. Most alarms come with starter disable,
shock sensor and door entry warning. The other components can be added
to most alarms or are included in the alarm box. Many manufacturers pay
for your deductible or a set dollar amount if the car is stolen with
their alarm installed.
Vehicle convenience: An alarm can lock and unlock your car just like a
keyless entry can. An alarm can also include a remote starter, trunk
release, window roll up, or other features.
Personal Security: An alarm can also provide you personal security in
several ways: the dome light can come on when you unlock your car so you
can see inside before getting in, the remote can be pushed to make the
siren go off attracting attention, and the alarm siren will notify you
of any vehicle intrusions.
Alarms are a great addition to your vehicle. The key is to have the
features that fits you and your vehicle's needs.
My vehicle has a factory alarm already. Why should I consider an
aftermarket alarm?
Aftermarket alarms offer more protection, convenience, and features than
most factory alarms.
Protection: aftermarket alarms offer additional sensors to keep
intruders from entering your vehicle. This includes impact, glass
breakage, and field sensors. Additional deterrents include a visual LED
warning and sirens that attract attention.
Convenience: features like remote start and window roll up are not
included on factory alarms. The range from an aftermarket alarm's remote
is also significantly greater.
Features: aftermarket alarms offer additional features including remote
starts, bright LED's, trunk release, and timed outputs that can be
customized to meet your needs.
What is a remote starter?
A remote starter can be added to about any vehicle. A remote starter can
start your car by pressing a remote. As you can imagine, the benefit of
a remote starter is that your car can warm up or cool down while you're
still in the comfort of your home or office. No more scraping ice off
the windshield, no more climbing into a hot car - add a remote starter
to your car.
Can a remote starter be added to any car?
Yes. Manual transmissions and diesel engines require a remote starter
capable of working on these cars.
Will an alarm void my factory vehicle warranty?
If the installation is done by a qualified, certified installer, your
vehicle's warranty will remain intact.
Can I install these products myself?
It is not recommended. Alarms and remote starts require a knowledge of
vehicle wiring and the proper tools including a multimeter, wire
strippers and crimpers. A vehicle's electrical system includes complex
circuitry, airbags, and on board computers that can be damaged if the
alarm or remote start are not installed correctly. A qualified,
certified installer and installation shop will install an alarm or
remote start so that you have years of trouble free use.
